Jason Cherniak and his Freudian Slip

Cherniak: Liberals good, Conservatives & pornography bad

In a recent post at his blog, Jason Cherniak seems to think he's stumbled upon the scoop of the year.

In hindsight, however (such things being 20/20) it would seem otherwise.

In a specious little post entitled "Conservative Pornography", Cherniak alleges that the Conservative party stole an image featured in a "Freak out your ex" ad from Stolen Porn Videos, an online pornography website.

As his evidence, he offers a couple of screen caps that feature the same shocked-looking young woman.

From the (notably hillarious) Conservative party ad:

From the porn site itself:

And finally (and allegedly most damning) from the CPC website itself:

So, Cherniak alleges (although not clearly explaining what he was doing at that site) the Conservatives simply must have stolen the image for the ad from a porn website! Those fiends!

Of course, one then suspects that Bored With Ironing is stealing their images from porn websites as well. After all, the expression on her face may be slightly different but by god that's the same young woman!

So, it would seem the image in question is nothing more than a stock image purchased by both the Conservative party and the porn site in question.

Of course, that hasn't prevented various internet dumbfucks from jumping for joy at the prospect of what they think is a juicy scandal.

If this is what passes for scandal amongst this particular bunch, one has to weep for the state of political discourse in this country.

After all, the Conservatives may have apparently coincidentally purchased the same stock photo as some porn site. But it isn't as if they stole hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer's funds, is it? (Great call on that one, by the way, Jason.)

Of course, one may wonder what Cherniak (or his alleged anonymous source) was doing at that site to begin with? Pornography being such a bad thing, apparently.

At least now we know what Cherniak's favourite porn site is.

  1. That's pretty funny. Actually porn sites steal a ton of stock photography, and have even stolen Flikr photos and put them on porn covers. There was an internet story recently about a girl who had her image stolen and put on a cover and she was only 15. And she couldn't do a thing about it. The porn company even accused her of being "jealous". Can't find the link now...

  2. Hilarious!

Yeah, well, people in the porn industry, more or less tend to be a little bit on the creepy side.

  3. I love that the blogging tories have all decided that this is such a non issue that they will all link to our blogs to show how much of a non issue this issue is.

Of course, this isn't the scandal of the year. in typical conservative fashion, you find it difficult to discern between a funny coincidence and a national scandal.

Grow a sense of humour already.

Of course, the Conservatives have lately been pretty lax with their stealing of copyright material for political purposes, so there was reason to question it (http://www.canada.com/topics/news/story.html?id=6892a8c6-c702-4efc-85f2-734d1c7eb718).
We were all quick to note that it was a stock photo when it became apparent.

  4. Really, that's funny.

Because I read more than a few commenters saying stuff like "oh, they must have stole the stock image".

But here's the funniest thing of all: you all want to pretend this is some kind of big deal, or even that it's embarrassing.

But when Stephen Harper suggested Paul Martin supports child pornography, you were all aghast (and actually rightfully so, because it was a scummy move).

Now you've suggested that the Conservative party uses pornographic images in its advertising, and we're aghast -- and rightfully so.

As for Cherni, I just hope he's having fun cruising all those porn sites.

As mentioned before, my theory is that even the dumbest Liberal (hello, Jason) now knows that Dion is such an unmitigated disaster that any offense is a good defense.

Get ready for more and more squink (i.e., internet squid ink) to muddy the waters...

  6. Oh, trust me. There's been plenty of squink to go around.
