PETA's Easter Spanking

Jesus not a vegetarian; loved fish

Paying any passing amount of attention to a PETA ad campaign is basically like watching an Old Navy commercial: everyone in vegetarianism.

Including, it seems, Jesus Christ. PETA seemingly delights in pushing the idea that Jesus is a vegetarian.

Comments by PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich suggesting the same were recently taken to task by Todd R Post, a travelling missionary.

In a letter appearing in the Fargo-Mounthead InForum, Post confronts PETA's claims with some very basic citations from scripture.

"Twice Jesus helped Peter catch abundant amounts of fish (Luke 5:4-7 and John 21:5-11). Luke 24:41-43 clearly shows that Jesus ate fish with his Disciples in their presence," Post explains. "In the Parable of the Lost Son, Jesus talked about the father killing the fatted calf to celebrate his son’s return (Luke 15:23). When Jesus instructed his followers to take communion, he used the phrase “eat my flesh” (John 6:53) when referring to the bread representing his body."

Not that Post entirely rejects PETA's biblical take of animal rights. In fact, he agrees that the Bible instructs not to abuse animals.

"I do agree that the Bible commands man not to deliberately abuse animals," Post continues. "Proverbs 12:10 (NIV) says, 'A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal.' I also agree with Friedrich’s disapproval of some modern agriculture methods. Seeing the movie Food, Inc inspired me to minimize my fast-food consumption."

But this is not to say that animals have the same value as humans. Post insists that the Bible clearly indicates otherwise.

"But animals do not have equal status with humans. Jesus said in Matthew 10:31, 'Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.' The Lord also said in Matthew 12:12, 'Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep?'"

In fact, Post insists, Jesus would take issue with people such as those in PETA, who treat animals as if they have greater value than humans.

"In Jesus’ day, some people valued the lives of animals more than the welfare of humans," Post writes. "In Mark, Chapter 5, Jesus delivered a demon-possessed man and allowed the unclean spirits to enter into a herd of swine, which ended up drowning. The pig farmers didn’t rejoice when seeing the demoniac set free. They were more concerned about losing their 'deviled ham' and told Jesus to go away."

One should likely presume that the "demonic possession" in this case is metaphorical for something. Likely the entire tale is metaphorical. But it's fairly clear: PETA's claims that the Bible grants equal value to animals as to humans is clearly false.

These arguments offered by PETA are -- as they so often are -- sloppy, lazy, and opportunistic.

"Today’s animal-rights advocates misuse Scripture to condemn meat-eating but neglect more important matters like people’s eternal destinies," Post declares. "This is a prophetic fulfillment of 1 Timothy 4 Verses 4 and 5 from this chapter go on to say, 'For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.'"

According to Post, it's permissable to consume meat, although the Bible does instruct believers to be thankful and appreciative of animals.

But PETA doesn't want Christians to realize this. They're too busy trying to use people's religious beliefs to push their own extreme agenda.

And They Wonder Why No One Takes Them Seriously

PETA promoting "revolutionary veganism" with Guevara's granddaughter

When an organization is as cozy with domestic terrorists as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has been, one shouldn't be shocked when they cozy up to the grand daughter of one of history's most infamous terrorists.

In one of the most recent examples of how radical an organization it really is, PETA has tapped Lydia Guevara, the granddaughter of Che Guevara -- of T-shirt fame -- to pose semi-nude in an ad campaign promoting a "vegetarian revolution".

One may be tempted to suspect that PETA is just another bunch of hucksters seeking to profit Guevara's revolutionary legacy without really knowing anything about it.

But considering the organization's past, the likelihood is that they know exactly what Che Guevara was about, and simply doesn't care.

The innumerous atrocities perpetrated by Guevara are well known by those who haven't been seduced by a romanticized version of the man. When Guevara died in 1967 he died with the blood of hundreds of people on his hands. He summarily executed 156 Cuban officials upon the overthow of the Batista regime. He was known for jailing and murdering homosexuals. He ordered rock music banned in Cuba, and opposed free elections under any circumstances whatsoever.

(He, like Fidel Castro, knew he and his ideological cohorts would lose.)

A historical record like that would dissuade almost any self-respecting organization from appealing to his image.

PETA, however, has never been an organization that respects itself. Nor have they ever shied way from supporting terrorists themselves.

Anyone who has ever seen the PETA episode Bullshit! knows all about the story of Rodney Coronado, an individual who has been involved in many incidents of violent protest. PETA donated nearly $50,000 to Coronado's defense fund, an amount that amounts to nothing less than complete condonation of his activities.

PETA either tacitly approves of the tactics that Guevara used to help establish communism in Cuba, or is simply naive enough to buy into his image.

One expects that kind of naivete from Lydia Guevara. She certainly didn't fail to deliver.

“I talked about it with my family before hand," Guevara says. "The name of my grandfather means I can fight for worthwhile causes which I believe in.”

Which apparently includes appearing in a PETA ad wearing nothing but camouflage fatigues, a red beret and a bandolier of carrots. She's attractive enough to pull off the look, but one would wonder how Guevara would feel about her raised fist in the ad if she stopped to think about the intimidation tactics Guevara used against those amongst his own relatives who didn't share his revolutionary fervour.

Oops.

Not that one would expect PETA to have retained any capacity for shame at this point, but the tragedy of 24 years of Lydia Guevara's brainwashing is absolutely palpable.

Priorities

PETA takes an awfully heavy toll on animal life

A news story emerging out of Britain today paints a not-so-rosy picture of PETA's operations in that country.

According to figures released today, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has collected up to five animals per day at its offices, and subsequently helped find homes for a grand total of seven of them. In a full year.

The rest of these animals -- 2,124 of them -- were put down.

This means that PETA has a %0.003 success rate in sparing the lives of animals turned over to it.

As it turns out, despite the fact that it collects 25 million Pounds Sterling in donations a year, PETA doesn't run a single adoption shelter in Britain. Nor does it operate one anywhere else in the world. Not one.

It's long been known precisely how disingenuous and hypocritical PETA really is.

They continue to slaughter animals at an unconscionable rate, making no effort whatsoever to spare them, but god forbid that someone, somewhere in the world eats a hamburger.

PETA's priorities aren't simply supremely fucked up. They're pretty much non-existent.

RIP - The Memory of Tim McLean

McLean's memory transformed into political football

When news broke that 22-year-old Tim McLean was stabbed to death and beheaded on a Greyhound Bus near Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canadians -- and people the world over -- reacted with shock.

As the grisly details slowly emerged over a period of days, that shock fomented into digust, outrage and distress. Such reactions are predictable. No one likes to believe that such an atrocity can happen so close to home, and people tend to like it even less when reality intercedes.

Sadly, there are organizations that are certainly banking on such reactions when they chose to use McLean's brutal murder as a political football to try and score some points for their particular political and social agendas.

Never ones to turn down an opportunity to milk a controversy, the zealots at PETA courted some well-justified outrage by producting an ad attempting to use the McLean tragedy to garner some support for their extremist cause. They had planned to run the ad in the Portage Daily Graphic.

In the ad, PETA made the bizarre claim that Vincent Weiguang Li was some sort of cannibal, as opposed to merely an intensely psychologically disturbed individual, and that eating meat is akin to participating in Tim McLean's murder.

(They would later decry the criticism they recieved as hate mail, just going to show that, once again, PETA can't take the heat but can't bring itself to stay out of the kitchen.)

But this pales in comparison to the intentions of the Westboro Baptist Church, who recently announced plans to come to Canada and picket McLean's funeral as a method of promoting their message of hate.

"God is punishing Canada," the church declared in a statement on its website.

"We're trying to get you to see that your rebellion against the standards of God, your disobedience to the commandments - your idols, your false gods, your filthy ways have brought wrath upon your head," insisted the Church's now-leading spokesperson, Shirley Phelps-Roper.

"When it comes to the (Westboro) Baptist Church, they don't even deserve to be on the same page as Tim McLean. He was too great a guy," said Doug Mitchell, a longtime friend of McLean's.

In response to the Church's promise to protest at McLean's funeral, Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day instructed the Canadian Border Security Agency to turn any known members of the WSB away at the border.

But when Shirley Phelps-Roper announced that a group of WBC members carrying no leaflets or any other form of hate propaganda were able to evade the order to refuse them entry to Canada, the impetuously unscrupulous Martin Rayner decided to try and run the issue -- and with it, the memory of Tim McLean -- into the endzone for a cheap touchdown, suggesting that all the current government's efforts toward strengthening border security has clearly all been for naught.

Rayner chose to parlay the WCB slipping into Canada into a forecast of an imminent infiltration by terrorist groups. This despite the fact that, the recent order to bar them from the country aside, the largely non-violent WCB necessarily remains a far lower priority for the RCMP, CSIS and CBSA than violent terrorist organizations.

The murder of Tim McLean was shocking to Canadians for obvious reasons. Its teen-slasher-flick gratuity has upset the equilibrium of many Canadians who continue to pretend that such things simply don't happen here.

The choice made by PETA, the WCB and Martin Rayner to indulge themselves in slasher-flick-cum-politics is shocking as well, and for not-so-different reasons.

The memory of Tim McLean should not be desecrated for petty politics.

Save the Weinermobile!!!

PETA's back at it... and so am I

Hoo boy, PETA again. You would think at some point these people would stop giving me stuff to work with. Think again.

Recently, PETA issued one of their “action alerts” (basically their asshole cronies to act like assholes). This time, they are targeting none other than Oscar Meyer – purveyors of meat products (notably hot dogs), and that delightful song.

…My bologna has a first name, it’s O-S-C-A-R…

Wait. Where was I? Oh, right. Douchebags.

Of course, this isn’t your average douchebaggery. This is PETA-style douchebaggery (apparently, the self-righteous yuppies have a style all their own).

PETA has issued an action alert urging people to enter the “Ride of Your Life” contest, in which 20 people will win the opportunity to use the beloved Oscar Meyer weinermobile for a full day. They have urged the people to win the contest to “put the weinermobile to use, PETA-style” (you can stop laughing any time now) in order to “show people how bad eating meat is for people and animals.”

Yes, that’s right. PETA desperately wants a weinermobile. More to the point, they want Oscar Meyer’s – whereas they could just fill a Chrysler P.T. Cruiser with as many of their members as can fit in it – which I’m guessing would be a lot of emaciated vegetarians. But that’s beside the point.

If anyone needed anything to convince them that PETA has entirely too much time on its hands – which, obviously it chooses to spend climbing onto that high horse they aren’t supposed to be riding (animals aren’t for our exploitation, you see).
Seeing as how encouraging people to act like assholes is all the rage these days, I’m throwing my hat into the ring. I will award an official “Nexus of Assholery” no-prize to anyone who will take the Oscar Meyer weinermobile, drive it to the PETA head office in Norfolk, Virginia and sell hotdogs in the parking lot in front of their building. I will award TWO of these priceless (albeit worthless) no-prizes to anyone who will eat a hotdog directly in front of anyone who comes out to complain. THREE if you spray them with mustard and set fire ants loose upon them!

…Wait… sorry. I forgot about all of those impressionable minds. I am joking (wink, wink) when I tell you that PETA (nudge, nudge) deserves to be humiliated. I am not at all serious (wink, wink) when I suggest that you should do this (nudge, nudge).

PETA Caught With Blood On Its Hands

What's that, Lassie? PETA Dumping Animals in Dumpsters? Lead the Way... or Just Read On...

Oh, the irony. Oh, the delicious, juicy, tasty, savory irony.

“Animals are not ours to eat,” the PETA website (www.peta.org) lectures us. “ Animals are not ours to wear. Animals are not ours to be experiment on. Animals are not ours to use for our entertainment. Animals are not ours to exploit.”
However, animals are apparently ours to kill and leave in dumpsters.
That’s uh… quite a moral stand you’re taking there…

That’s right, the people who seek to scare you into following their beliefs (“Eating meat causes cancer”), shame you into following their beliefs (“Torture tuesday”), or just outwardly distort the issues (“Feeding children meat is child abuse”) has egg on its face and blood on its hands, as two of its employees, Andrew Benjamin Cook and Adria Joy Hinkle are currently working their way through the North Carolina courts on charges of animal cruelty.

Cook and Hinkle (both paid employees of PETA, who were charged June 16), it seems, had been euthanizing healthy animals and dumping them in the garbage dumpster at a Piggly Wiggly supermarket. Among the animals, apparently were kittens, mother cats, and puppies.

That’s right… apparently, PETA kills puppies. Well, not PETA, only their paid employees.

In a June 17 news conference, PETA president Ingrid Kewkirk condemned the actions of Cook and Hinkle, saying, “ [It’s] hideous, it’s wrong, and it never should have happened.”

“That conduct disgusts us,” Newkirk said of the dumping. “It shames us. It violates our own protocols, it happened without our knowledge and can never be allowed to happen again. But our work is important and our work must go on,” Newkirk added. However, if this conduct really does disgust PETA, they’ve certainly gone out of their way to show it.

On the aforemention www.PETA.org, there is no mention of the incident whatsoever, and on Newkirk’s weblog (www.ingridnewkirk.com), Newkirk saw fit to post some fish cartoons (http://www.ingridnewkirk.com/archives/2005/06/more_fish_comic.html), as well as what is apparently supposed to pass as an amusing photograph (http://www.ingridnewkirk.com/archives/2005/06/slow_and_steady.html), but no mention of this very serious matter.

Which may not be so surprising. According to “Better Dead than Fed” author Debra Saunders, “ PETA always has been about killing animals. A 2003 New Yorker profile included PETA top dog Ingrid Newkirk’s story of how she became involved in animal rights after a shelter put down stray kittens she brought there. So she went to work for an animal shelter in the 1970s, where, she explained: ‘I would go to work early, before anyone got there, and I would just kill the animals myself. Because I couldn’t stand to let them go through (other workers abusing the animals). I must have killed a thousand of them, sometimes dozens every day.’ ”

Sounds an awful lot like “ in order to save the village, we had to burn it,” doesn’t it? Maybe it’s just me. But why does an organization like PETA, which claims to be dedicated to the protection of animals, euthanize them at the horrific rate that PETA does?

Too often, it comes down to money. If PETA were to use more of its money to feed and care for animals, it might not have as much money to finance its massive propaganda campaigns. This, of course, would be a tremendous inconvenience. Also, this would cost them the ability to maintain as many paid employees, which would force them to rely more recruiting volunteers, which is also inconvenient. Maybe the lives of animals just aren’t worth it.

This attitude isn’t surprising to find in an organization that has obviously never felt an ounce of embarrassment in aiming its propaganda campaigns at anyone they think they can manipulate – including children.

Don’t get me wrong. Animal cruelty is a very serious issue. However, there is something rotten at the core of PETA, and it’s only getting worse. Among other things, allegations are surfacing that link PETA to potentially violent extremist groups like the Animal Liberation Front, a group which at best can be considered good-intentioned, but rather reckless.

Maybe its time that PETA was disbanded in favor of a more widespread, volunteer-driven, community-oriented approach to protecting animals – no extreme political agenda, just helping animals through local Humane Societies and SPCAs. No hypocritical Ingrid Newkirks, just regular people doing their part to meet their responsibilities to animals.

But most of all, no more “final solution” approach to caring for animals.
