The definitive factor is its lateral hovering/ordinance delivery capability.

There's no better fighter/bomber available.Patrick Rosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12268876306800933642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9149446.post-77764674789338552662010-10-16T08:05:37.245-06:002010-10-16T08:05:37.245-06:00If the Russians come over the pole they will not c...If the Russians come over the pole they will not come with long range bombers and fighter jets - they will come with scientists and research vessels, and an F-35 is quite impotent against that sort of attack.

It should also be remembered that our (supposed) closest friend and ally is also in the Arctic like a dirty sock in our national laundry and telling us to go piss up a rope - a handful of F-35's aren't going to help with that one either.

Secondly, Canada is not a peacekeeping country anymore - Staples can lament the loss of that status (and we can all ponder whether or not we'd be sitting at the UNSC table even now if we still were), and others can say the F-35 would support that role, but since we don't actually have that anymore why bother?

Do we need some sort of fighter aircraft? My answer is yes.

Do we need the F-35? My answer is, "I don't know", and quite frankly neither do 99% of the people currently saying we do need that particular hardware - they're doing little more than parroting talking points from a party they agree with.

Why people don't want to be honest about this and simply acknowledge that the current government is trying to re-engineer our role in international affairs towards one that it wants to hold befuddles me.

That is the debate that should be happening, are we as a nation suited to, or able, to fulfill that role?

My answer is no.

Our population, and therefore the tax base to fund it, are not sufficient.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9149446.post-65761845275048764352010-10-15T01:38:15.047-06:002010-10-15T01:38:15.047-06:00There's something deeply troubling about peopl...There's something deeply troubling about people like Steven Staples who simply refuse to acknowledge reality.Patrick Rosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12268876306800933642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9149446.post-85064657327052018752010-10-14T13:47:19.084-06:002010-10-14T13:47:19.084-06:00http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uyTFPwSXUI
